Three men charged with murder in death of Mount Vernon man

Three men have been charged with murder in the death of Jackie M. Bullock of Mount Vernon, whose body was found Thursday in his car in a field off Lone Oak Road in Rockcastle County. Rockcastle County Deputy Sheriff Matt Bryant said Joshua Duane Cameron, 23; Gary Lee Kirby, 19; and Bobby Peters, 34, all of Mount Vernon, were in the Rockcastle County Detention Center in connection with Bullock's death.

Bullock, 34, also of Mount Vernon, died of a single gunshot wound, Bryant said.

He said the slaying occurred at 395 Lone Oak Road, the home of Peters' father.

"We believe the motive was robbery for the purpose of stealing his ... prescription medication," the sheriff's deputy said, adding that authorities understand that Bullock had obtained the medication legally.

Peters was already in jail, accused of methamphetamine manufacturing, after a police search Thursday of the Lone Oak Road home turned up a suspected meth lab, Bryant said. The murder charge was added Sunday, he said.

Cameron and Kirby were arrested Sunday.

Cameron, Kirby and Peters are each jailed on $1 million bond on the murder charges. Peters' bond on the drug charge is $25,000. The three are to be arraigned Monday morning in Rockcastle District Court.
