Man is arrested after seeking treatment at Lexington hospital

A 35-year-old man was in the Fayette County jail Wednesday night, charged in connection with a robbery attempt earlier this month in which he reportedly suffered a gunshot wound.

Darrell Wayne Strunk is charged with robbery and three counts of non-payment of fines, according to detention center officials.

Police arrested Strunk after he went to Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington on Wednesday, apparently to seek medical treatment.

He was booked into the detention center Wednesday night, officials there said.

Lexington police had obtained an arrest warrant for Strunk in connection with a Dec. 5 robbery attempt at B & N Towing on Lisle Industrial Drive. Officers said at the time that Strunk had been wounded in the incident.

According to police reports, two men tried to rob William Eckler, the owner of the towing service, at gunpoint. Eckler, however, pulled his own gun and shot one of the robbers, thought to be Strunk, police said. The robbers fled in a car that was later found on Maryland Avenue.
