Details released on Lexington accident that killed 1

A Louisville man died Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash on Leestown Road, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.

Ashtin Strelke, 20, was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m. Friday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Strelke was a passenger in a 2001 Acura driven by Richard Beasley that was inbound on Leestown Road, according to Lexington police.

The crash happened after Beasley overcorrected, crossed into the oncoming lane, overcorrected again and spun out of control into the path of an outbound 2003 Mercury Mountaineer driven by William Leach, police said. The Mountaineer was unable to avoid a collision and struck the Acura in the passenger side where Strelke was sitting.

Beasley and Leach were listed in fair condition Friday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

The collision occurred a little after 2 a.m. on Leestown between Yarnallton Road and Dolan Lane, police said in a release.

A police reconstruction unit is investigating the accident. This was the 33rd fatality in 2011 reported by Lexington police.
