Detroit man wanted in Frankfort murder case is arrested

State police arrested a suspect in a Frankfort murder case late Friday in Laurel County, according to a news release.

Frankfort police notified state police that Marquis A. Sims, 38, who was wanted on a murder charge, was staying at a motel near Interstate 75 in southern Laurel County.

Officers arrested Sims at the motel without incident shortly before 10 p.m., according to the release.

Sims, of Detroit, was indicted in August in connection with the Sept. 13, 2010 death of Obie Murphy, 40, of Shelby County.

Murphy was shot during what Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland has called a "drug transaction that went bad." He died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Sims was being held Saturday night in the Laurel County Correctional Center on $200,000 cash bond, according to the jail Web site.
