Horse euthanized after being hit on Georgetown Road

One of three horses running loose on Georgetown Road early Wednesday was euthanized after being struck by a car.

In a news release, Lexington police said a small car struck one of the horses near 3211 Georgetown Road about 2 a.m. The driver and a passenger were taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver told police they were unable to avoid the horse, which was standing in the middle of the road.

The other two horses were caught and put in a nearby paddock. An equine vet was called and euthanized the horse, the release said.

As of 9 a.m., police were searching for the owner of the three horses.
