Lexington investigators seek help to solve a rash of arson fires

Investigators with the Lexington Division of Fire are searching for a possible arsonist and need the public's help.

Maj. Ed Davis said Wednesday there have been several intentionally set fires during the past several months in the area of Alexandria Drive and Hill Rise Drive off Versailles Road.

He declined to give specifics about the number of fires or how they were set.

Investigators are trying to figure out how many of the fires are connected, he said.

Until New Year's Eve, most of the fires had been in trash containers and vehicles. But on Saturday, a fire at a vacant apartment at 1706 Hill Rise Drive increased concern among officials because other apartments in the building were occupied, he said.

"When people start setting occupied structures on fire, that's a whole new ball game," Davis said.

Fire investigators have been canvassing the affected areas and asking residents whether they've seen any suspicious activity.

The investigators plan to continue with the "knock and talks" as long as necessary, Davis said.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call fire investigators at (859) 231-5672, Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020 or LexCall at 311.
