Florida authorities arrest Fayette sex offender on lam for 3 years

A Fayette-County registered sex offender who has been missing for more than three years was arrested in Florida this week.

Lane Robert Weidner is one of five sex offenders whose photos and identities were recently publicized by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal's Office.

Weidner was arrested in Hollywood, Fla., on a warrant charging him with failure to comply as a sex offender, a news release by the U.S. Marshal's Service said.

Weidner was convicted in 1998 for possession of child pornography in Wisconsin. He moved to Kentucky when he was released from prison and "absconded" from supervision in 2008, the release said.

Weidner was the third sex offender arrested for noncompliance since Operation Bluegrass Corral, a sweeping sex-offender check by several agencies. Previously, convicted offenders Wayne Brian Wade and Melissa Mae Brown were arrested in Kentucky. Offenders Antonio Luis Angel Fuentes and Kenneth Martin are still at large.
