Fayette schools employee indicted on sex charges

A suspended Fayette County public schools employee was indicted this week on charges that he sexually abused two children.

Richard Davis Jr., 34, was indicted Tuesday on one count of incest, one count of first-degree sodomy and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

Davis, a teacher's aide at Arlington Elementary School, was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation after he was criminally charged in December. He remained on administrative leave Thursday, Fayette County Schools Spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said.

The alleged assaults did not occur on school property and, as a teacher's aide, Davis would not have been alone with children on school property, officials have said.

According a police report, Davis "had deviate sexual intercourse" with a girl under 12 and subjected her to sexual contact over a period of about a year. According to the indictment issued by a grand jury this week, two additional charges of sexual abuse were added for alleged sexual contact with a second child.

Davis, who pleaded not guilty to the original charges in District Court, is scheduled for his first Circuit Court hearing March 8.
