A man was arrested in the armed robbery of a gas station early Friday, Lexington police said.

David Lewis, 25, was charged with first-degree robbery of the Speedway at 911 Beaumont Centre Parkway, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Lewis was apprehended in a car, operating with no headlights, on the double crossover diamond interchange on Harrodsburg Road, Roberts said.

Police were dispatched to the Speedway at 1:50 a.m. Friday after a man wearing a mask entered the store, displayed a machete and said, "You know what I want."

The man fled on foot. Lewis allegedly matched the description of the suspect given to police.

He was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
