Two wounded in early Monday shooting in north Lexington

Two people were shot on Wayland Drive in Lexington early Monday in an incident police said was "domestic-related."

Edgar Noel Vieyra was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and one count each of second-degree assault, burglary and violating a domestic violence order.

One victim had life-threatening injuries. Another, a woman, was shot in the mid-torso and was listed as stable, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

A third person had a gash on the head from being hit with the gun, she said. Police did not release names of the victims.

Officers were called to 1845 Wayland Drive, near Bryan Station Road, about 2:15 a.m. for a report of a man outside firing shots into the house. As several officers were en route, they received a report that the shooter had gone inside and that at least one person was hurt.

When they arrived, they found Vieyra being held down in a back room by one of the people in the house, Roberts said. He was arrested and taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.

Roberts said the person who had a restraining order against Vieyra was in the house, but it was unclear whether that person was one of the shooting victims.

Vieyra was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
