A McCreary County woman shot a home intruder early Friday after he assaulted her and three other people inside her home, according to Kentucky State Police.
Norman Waters, 71, of Pine Knot, unlawfully entered the home of Crystal Redden, 35, on Osborne Creek Road and assaulted her and Brian Spradlin, 44, of Revelo, police said in a news release. Waters then went outside to his vehicle to get a handgun and came back in, assaulting two other women.
When he confronted Redden and Spradlin for the second time, Redden shot him once in the torso, according to the news release.
State police arrived just after 3 a.m. and found Waters waiting for medical assistance at a local store. He was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, where his condition was not available.
Police suspect that Waters knew the people inside the home, but full details won't be released until the investigation is completed, Trooper Don Trosper said. Charges could be filed after the case is presented to prosecuting attorneys, said Trosper, a spokesman for the state police.
