Fire damaged an apartment building at 2399 Sterlington Road in Lexington on Friday morning so badly that all four units are uninhabitable, fire department Battalion Chief Ed Davis said.

The Red Cross provided shelter for residents who had nowhere else to go, Davis said.

Firefighters were dispatched just before 9:30 a.m. Some were still there at 5:30 p.m. guarding against flare-ups.

Davis said investigators had not determined the cause of the blaze.

Sterlington Road, which is near Yellowstone Parkway and Alumni Drive, was closed while firefighters worked the fire.
