Two women found dead in a burned home Sunday night in Perry County might not have died from a fire, police said.
The state medical examiner's office had not ruled on causes of death for Sandra Melton, 64, and Suzy Melton, 35, state police said in a news release. However, based on preliminary autopsy results, their deaths were "not consistent with someone who dies from a house fire only," the news release said.
The fire was in the community of Scuddy.
Initially, police and fire investigators thought there were no suspicious circumstances.

Trooper Tony Watts, a spokesman for the state police post in Hazard, said he could not elaborate on what the preliminary autopsy findings might mean.
He said the medical examiner's office had not determined whether the deaths were homicides, suicides, natural causes or accidental. He said the medical examiner and police "might not know that for some time."
Investigators returned to the scene of the fire Wednesday to investigate further.
