A 14-year-old boy was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after being shot in the stomach in Laurel County Saturday morning.
The boy was visiting a friend at a home on Ky. 552 eight miles southwest of London when the shooting occurred, according to a news release from the Laurel County sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said a 15-year-old boy at the home told them he was handling his grandfather's .38-caliber revolver in the kitchen when he tripped and the gun went off, hitting the 14-year-old.
The boy who had been holding the gun called 911 and helped the victim outside, where they met the deputies responding to the call.

The victim's 16-year-old cousin, who had also been at the home, left before deputies arrived, according to the release.
Tom Cooper, the alleged shooter's grandfather, says he was out of town at the time of the shooting and the boys didn't have permission to be in his home.
Cooper said the shooting victim was out of surgery and recuperating.
