Three Letcher County residents stole $1 million worth of trucks and other equipment between October 2010 and March 2012, a federal grand jury has charged.
The grand jury charged Henry A. Hall, Goldie C. Pierce and Roger Tolliver with taking part in an interstate theft ring.
Members of the conspiracy stole vehicles and equipment in other states, including Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina, took them across state lines and altered identification numbers to hide the thefts, the indictment charged.
The indictment included a forfeiture count under which the government seeks to seize the alleged stolen items if the three are convicted.
It listed six pickup trucks, two tractor-trailers, a dump truck, a recreational vehicle, a farm tractor and two excavators, among other items.
The indictment also seeks a payment of $1 million, representing the gross proceeds of the alleged theft ring.
Several of the charges carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
