Kentucky State Police said the crash occurred shortly after noon. Shelby Harrison, 18, was driving east on Richmond Road when she swerved to the right to avoid another eastbound vehicle turning left. Harrison went onto the right shoulder, then swerved back into the westbound lane, striking a car driven by William Neal of Irvine.
Neal, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Estill County coroner. A passenger in his vehicle, Ronald Whittaker, 75, also of Irvine, was taken to Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, where he later died.
Harrison also was taken to Marcum & Wallace for treatment. Her passenger, Justin Colton, 20, of Irvine, was not hurt.
