Lawrenceburg house's smell leads to two arrests, police say

Two people were arrested after a police officer patrolling a Lawrenceburg neighborhood smelled their filthy home.

The officer, Clay Crouch, was patrolling the Beth Drive area at 9:30 a.m. Friday "when he detected a strong foul odor," according to a news release from the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

That led him to 104 Beth Drive, where he found a home "filled with mounds of garbage, human and animal feces, rodents and insects," according to the release. Two adults and a child were living in the home.

Anna G. Mauer, 24, and Michael W. Hutchens, 24, were arrested and charged with second degree wanton endangerment.

The health department, local zoning regulators, Anderson County Attorney, Lawrenceburg Fire Department and Cabinet for Health And Family Services were all called to the scene.
