State suspends license of Prestonsburg osteopath charged with child-porn possession

The state medical board, in an emergency order, has suspended the license of a Prestonsburg osteopath who was charged last month with possession of child pornography, according to the order released Tuesday.

The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure's order, filed May 8, involves Bret A. Dunning, whose specialty is family medicine.

The board's order quoted a court record that said after executing a search warrant on April 30, Kentucky State Police detectives observed three images on Dunning's computer involving sexual acts by children ages 7 or younger.

According to the order, Dunning was arrested on a charge of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

Floyd County Chief Deputy Clerk Barb Lykens confirmed Tuesday that Dunning pleaded not guilty on May 1.

The order said, and Lykens confirmed, that a court placed Dunning on home incarceration and prohibited him from possessing a computer or electronic device.

The board order said, and Lykens confirmed, that the court required Dunning to stay 1,000 feet away from any school, day care or public place where there might be children.

According to the board order, Dunning's practice is next to a preschool called Learning Ladder Academy. Dunning's office was temporarily closed on May 3, the order said.

Dunning has a right to a hearing on the board's suspension of his license, the order said.

Dunning could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
