Horse, driver hurt as crash snarls I-75/64 traffic for 2 hours in Lexington

A truck pulling a trailer with several horses on Interstates 75 and 64 near mile-marker No. 112 in Lexington was hit from the rear by a mini van at about 10 a.m. Saturday.

Southbound traffic was snarled for two hours between the Paris Pike exit and the eastbound I-64 split to Winchester.

The force of the impact caused the trailer to disengage from the truck and strike the median, according to Lt. Samuel Murdock of the Lexington police department. One horse was ejected from the trailer.

Police called the Lexington Humane Society, which transported the horse to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital on Georgetown Road with superficial cuts and scrapes. The driver of the mini-van was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
