A 73-year-old Lexington woman was jailed Tuesday because police say she left an elderly man under her care in a filthy home.
Julia Polsgrove was charged with one count of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult and was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
The home on Kilkenny Court was littered with filth and animal feces and was condemned, city spokeswoman Susan Straub said.
"The house wasn't fit to live in," said Sherelle Roberts, spokeswoman for the Lexington police. The man at the home was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, she said.

Police, code enforcement and social services workers spent much of Tuesday morning at the home, Roberts said, adding that officials have been aware of problems there for some time. She said the police department's special victims section will continue to work with state adult protective services workers on the case.
Fayette District Court records indicate that Polsgrove has been charged with 28 counts of animal-related offenses, such as not having licenses, each year since 2010, but in all but three instances the charges have been dismissed.
