A McCreary County man had life-threatening wounds after a road-rage confrontation at a Pulaski County intersection led to a shooting, according to sheriff's deputies.

Luster L. Rose, 54, of Parkers Lake was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington for treatment, according to a news release from Lt. Brett R. Whitaker of the Pulaski County sheriff's office.

Troy A. McAninch, 23, of Stanford was arrested on an assault charge, the news release said.

McAninch and his wife, Samantha, said Rose tailgated and passed them Thursday night on Ky. 914 in his 2013 International tractor-trailer, police said. McAninch was a passenger in a 1995 Nissan pickup truck driven by his wife.

McAninch was infuriated by Rose's driving, police said.

When the two vehicles arrived at a stoplight at Ky. 914 and Ky. 1247, just south of Somerset, McAninch allegedly left the pickup truck and climbed up on the passenger side of Rose's truck, yelling obscenities, police said. Rose got out of his truck with a wooden club.

As the confrontation in the road escalated, McAninch pulled a Glock handgun, firing four times at Rose, according to the news release.

Police were summoned at 7:55 p.m. By the time they arrived, McAninch had disarmed himself.
