Lexington apartment fire closed Jefferson Street but caused no injuries

Lexington Fire Department firefighters worked at a fire Friday morning at 357 Jefferson Street. The fire, which began about 7 a.m., was in a house that had been converted into apartments. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the building.

Fire damaged a small apartment building Friday morning on Lexington's Jefferson Street, closing the street, but no one was injured, an official said.

Lexington Fire Department shift commander Brian Wainscott said the fire began on a second story porch of one of the apartments in the 300 block of Jefferson Street.

Jefferson was closed between West Third and West Fourth streets for part of Friday morning.
