Bath County man dies after trying to cross road in Owingsville

A 74-year-old Owingsville man was killed while trying to cross a road in Owingsville, Bath County, Sunday evening.

Police said in a news release that Ray Ellis was trying to cross Slate Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by an unidentified 17-year-old.

Ellis was struck by the front driver's side of the vehicle. He then hit the windshield before rolling off the driver's side and striking the pavement, police said.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling with severe head trauma before being transferred to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No charges had been filed as of Monday morning.
