Kentucky underage-drinking crackdown yields results

The Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's increased presence statewide in an effort to crack down on underage drinking has yielded strong results, a news release said.

The department's "Cops in Shops" initiative resulted in 154 alcohol-related citations since the operations began Aug. 29, the news release said.

The citations include possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of a forged instrument and assisting a minor to purchase alcohol. Specifically, 94 underage possession citations have been issued by ABC, the release said.

"We are focused on ensuring that alcohol is used safely and legally throughout the state," Mike Razor, ABC's director of the Division of Enforcement, said in the news release. "Enforcing the law may impede someone's idea of fun, but we are intent on saving lives."
