A Lexington man died early Wednesday after being hit on New Circle Road Tuesday night, according to the Fayette coroner's office.

Mario Rodriguez-Pena, 55, died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, the coroner's office said. He was hit by a sport-utility vehicle while trying to cross New Circle Road Tuesday night.

The outer loop of East New Circle between Golden Way and Old Paris Pike was closed for several hours while police investigated.

Rodriguez-Pena did not appear to have been in a crosswalk when he was hit, police said. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The coroner's office is looking for family or friends to claim the body of Rodriguez-Pena. His last known address was the Hope Center at 360 West Louden Avenue in Lexington.
