A 41-year-old man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle collided with a Kentucky State Police cruiser that was on its way to another crash.
The fatal collision occurred just before 3 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 25 West in Whitley County, troopers at the London state police post said.
State police said trooper Duane Foley was traveling north on U.S. 25 west on his way to an injury accident. The emergency equipment on Foley's cruiser was activated at the time, police said.
Police said Foley noticed two vehicles slowing in the northbound lane ahead of him as he neared the Shiner Church Road intersection. Foley moved into the southbound lane to pass, police said.

At that point, James E. King, 41, of Williamsburg pulled into Foley's path when King turned left onto Brays Chapel Road.
Foley attempted to avoid a collision, but the patrol car collided with King's vehicle, according to a state police news release.
King was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County coroner's office.
Foley was treated at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin and released.
The crash remains under investigation.
