A man was shot multiple times Friday morning in the doorway of an apartment on Danielle Lane in Lexington, police said.
Officers who rushed to the apartment complex just after 8:30 a.m. noticed a strange odor, became concerned and summoned a hazardous-materials team from the Lexington Division of Fire, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
The shooting victim, whose name was not released, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. He was listed in serious condition as at 10:30 a.m., Roberts said.
Meanwhile, a Haz-Mat team remained at the apartments, which are near Fortune Drive. Crews are trying to determine the source of the strange smell. Officers initially thought the smell might indicate the presence of a meth lab, but that seemed less likely after an initial investigation, Roberts said.
