Lexington man pleads not guilty to murder charge; released on bail

A Lexington man charged with fatally shooting his wife at their home on Summerville Drive pleaded not guilty Monday.

John D. Blevins, 87, was arraigned on a murder charge Monday in Fayette County District Court, according to court documents. He was released after his daughter posted a $100,000 property bond. As a condition of his release, Blevins must wear an ankle monitor and be supervised by a relative.

According to court documents filed Sunday, Blevins intentionally shot his wife, Elizabeth Blevins, 85, at their house at 860 Summerville Drive. Court documents did not provide further details. Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts declined to discuss the case further.

On Saturday, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said Elizabeth Blevins was pronounced dead at the scene. He said Blevins has been diagnosed with dementia according to relatives.
