Knox County man found shot to death was 'person of interest' in father's shooting

A man who was considered a "person of interest" in the shooting of his father has been found dead of a gunshot wound in rural Knox County, authorities said.

Police had been seeking an arrest warrant for Eric Taylor, 25, when his body was found about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in his father's Jeep Wrangler, which was parked about 100 yards off an abandoned logging road, said Maj. Rob Jones of the Corbin Police Department.

Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins said Taylor died of a single gunshot wound.

The Times Tribune newspaper in Corbin reported that the coroner determined that Taylor took his own life.

Jones said police had wanted to talk with Eric Taylor in connection with the shooting of his father, William Taylor, 56, on Jan. 22 at a trailer park in Corbin. Taylor was wounded in the side.

"We had considered him (Eric Taylor) a person of interest in the case," Jones said. Police were seeking the arrest warrant for an assault charge.

William Taylor is improving in the intensive care unit at Baptist Health in Corbin after surgery, Jones said.

An investigation into the shooting of both men is continuing, authorities said.
