Coroner identifies Barbourville girl who died in accident

The coroner has identified a 22-month old girl who was run over Monday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police in Harlan were notified of the toddlers death by the Fayette County Coroner's Office at 2:05 p.m., the release said. The coroner identified the girl as Rylan Rose of Barbourville.

Rylan had been the subject of conflicting police reports. Officials had initially reported that she died Monday evening, but later said that information was inaccurate. Police issued a release, saying the child was in critical condition.

The accident was reported to the Harlan post at 2:44 p.m. Monday. A caller said a small child had been hit by a vehicle on Maggie Cane Road in Barbourville.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Scott Rose, 44, of Barbourville was driving a 2013 Ford Mustang when he stopped to wait on two small children to get out of the road. Rose didn't see Rylan beside his vehicle when he pulled out. She fell under a vehicle and was struck by the back wheel. WKYT, the Herald-Leader's TV news partner, has said Rose is Rylan's uncle.

Rylan was taken to the Knox County Hospital, then was flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The coroner's report said Rylan died from a traumatic brain injury. Her death has been ruled an accident.
