Danville man charged after being shot in the hand during fracas

A man was jailed in Danville after being shot in the hand during an altercation early Thursday morning.

Police said Maurice O. Stitt, 34, of Danville is charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, three counts of kidnapping, and one count each of terroristic threatening and public intoxication.

Stitt was charged after being treated at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for the gunshot wound to his left hand, Danville police said.

Police said they received a call about 1:17 a.m. Thursday about a disturbance involving a weapon at a home in the 700 block of Upper Street. Officers said they detained Stitt and three other people outside the home when they arrived.

Police determined that Stitt and another man became involved in an altercation inside the residence, and that Stitt was wounded when a handgun discharged.

No other names have been released, but the investigation is continuing.
