Police: Car hit officer's cruiser in Lexington intersection despite use of lights, siren

A Lexington police officer and two other people escaped serious injury in a two-car crash Sunday night.

It happened about 8 p.m. at Winchester Road and Eastland Parkway, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Officer Dilyana Nicolova was responding to an emergency call with her lights and siren in operation when the crash occurred, Roberts said.

Nicolova was turning left from Eastland Parkway onto outbound Winchester when her cruiser was broadsided by a Buick Century in the intersection.

Nicolova and two passengers from the Buick were treated at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but were not badly hurt Roberts said.

An investigation is continuing.
