Lexington man arraigned on charges that he killed his brother by driving over him

A Lexington man is scheduled for arraignment next week in Fayette District Court on charges that he ran over his brother with a truck, killing him.

William Watkins, 45, is charged with reckless homicide, driving under the influence and driving without insurance. The charges stem from the death of his brother, Bryan Keith Watkins, 42, who was fatally injured when he was struck by William Watkins' pickup truck late Saturday night. According to Lexington police, Bryan Keith Watkins was struck by his brother's truck about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Woodview Drive.

William Watkins appeared briefly in district court Monday via video from the Fayette County jail and stated that he couldn't afford an attorney.

A not guilty plea was entered on William Watkins' behalf, and District Judge T. Bruce Bell referred the case to the public defender's office.

Bell scheduled Watkins' next court appearance for Nov. 5, and ordered that his bond should remain at $25,550.
