Police surround Lexington apartment building after call about possible burglary

Lexington police surrounded an apartment building on Malabu Drive on Monday night after responding to a call about a possible burglary in progress.

An officer who arrived at the apartment at 175 Malabu Drive just after 8 p.m. found evidence that the door had been kicked in and called for backup after hearing people inside, possibly with a weapon, said Lt. Jesse Harris.

Police evacuated residents of the building and yelled for those inside the apartment to come out.

After about 30 minutes, with negotiators en route to the scene, three people in the apartment came out on their own, Harris said.

The two men and a woman were being questioned, but police did not know what they were doing in the apartment or whether one of them might have lived there.
