School dismissals delayed after man shot in the hand in Lexington's East End

A shooting on Lexington's East End Thursday afternoon delayed the dismissal of several schools and sent police on a manhunt for more than an hour.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said officers were called to the 500 block of East Sixth Street after a man was shot in the hand just after 2 p.m.

The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated, she said.

The suspect fled. The man lives in the area and police are "pretty sure who he is," Roberts said.

It was unclear whether the men knew each other.

Dismissal times were delayed for William Wells Brown Elementary, Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics Academy, Lexington Traditional Magnet School and Arlington Elementary. Students were released about 30 minutes later than usual.

As of late Thursday afternoon police were still searching for the man, Roberts said.
