Marcos Popche, 30, died at University of Kentucky Hospital at about 9 a.m. Tuesday after stabbing his girlfriend and then himself in a middle school parking lot, Somerset police said. Popche's estranged girlfriend, Angie Lynn Rodriguez, 32, was in fair condition at the hospital Tuesday night.
Police said the attack occurred just after 8 a.m. at Meece Middle School in Somerset. Somerset police Capt. Shannon Smith said Rodriguez went to the school Tuesday morning to drop off a child, then drove to the lower parking lot, where she and Popche had agreed to meet.
According to initial reports, the meeting turned violent, and Popche stabbed Rodriguez several times and then stabbed himself multiple times. Both had abdominal stab wounds.
Smith described Popche and Rodriguez, both from Somerset, as an estranged unmarried couple. They had lived together, but Rodriguez had moved out in the past few weeks, he said.
