A fire destroyed a home in the 1800 block of Balfour Drive in Lexington on Wednesday night.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Harvey said firefighters were called after the owners had returned home and noticed black smoke coming from the back of the residence.
Flames and smoke were visible when first responders arrived, at about 10:10 p.m., Harvey said.
No one was home at the time of the call. Four dogs in the home were saved, Harvey said. Officials planned to investigate through the night to determine what caused the fire.
