Lexington robbery suspects arraigned, plead not guilty

Two men arrested after a brief police standoff on Winburn Drive entered not guilty pleas Friday afternoon during an arraignment in Fayette District Court.

Police said Duquion Baxter, 18, and Cardreus Winter, 19, are charged in connection with a Sept. 24 robbery at the GameStop store on West New Circle Road.

Both men are scheduled to be back in court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 26. They were being held in the Fayette County jail on a $20,000 cash bond each.

Officers arrested Baxter Thursday afternoon after a brief standoff at a home in the 1000 block of Winburn Drive. Police went there about 1:45 p.m. to pick up Baxter on an arrest warrant, but he refused to come outside.

The Emergency Response Unit was called, but Baxter surrendered about 3 p.m.

Winter was arrested shortly afterward.

Winburn Middle School, which is nearby, went on heightened alert because of the standoff. An email was sent to parents after the school was notified, and Winburn Drive was closed to traffic. Parent Night and all after-school activities were cancelled, the email said.
