Lancaster woman faces 57 felony charges, accused of writing fraudulent prescriptions

A Lancaster woman is facing 57 felony charges after being accused of writing fraudulent prescriptions in multiple counties.

Melanie Ruth is accused of using her position at a doctor's office to get access to blank prescriptions, according to a news release from the Boyle County sheriff's office.

Ruth, who was arrested Tuesday, is facing nine counts of first-degree unlawful access to computer, nine counts of first-degree possession of controlled substance, 13 counts of theft of prescription blank for controlled substance, 13 counts of criminal possession of a forged prescription and 13 counts of forgery of a prescription.

The Boyle County Narcotics Unit is investigating, and more charges are expected, according to the release.
