A man who was shot outside Wal-Mart in Manchester on Monday underwent surgery and was "in good condition" afterward, Manchester police Chief Chris Fultz said Tuesday afternoon.
Richard Lawson was said to have been critically injured Monday morning after being shot twice in the abdomen by Michael Edwards, 32, police said. Lawson and Edwards had been engaged in a land dispute for several years and were scheduled to appear in Clay District Court on Monday morning. Before the appointed time, the men ran into each other at Wal-Mart.
Authorities said Lawson and Edwards got into an argument that escalated to a physical altercation in the parking lot that ended when Edwards shot Lawson twice in the abdomen.
Edwards was being held in the Clay County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond, according to the jail website. Edwards is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and three counts of wanton endangerment.
