A former caregiver entered a not-guilty plea to abuse charges Wednesday.
Ashley Burchett, 27, of Princeton is charged with one count of knowing abuse or neglect of an adult and was indicted Oct. 17 by a Christian County grand jury, according to the state attorney general's office.
Burchett worked as a caregiver at Outwood in Dawson Springs. According to the indictment, on or about May 11 Burchett abused a nonverbal resident with severe mental disabilities by pushing him into his wheelchair when he tried to stand up. Burchett is also accused of striking the resident on the head with a can of chewing tobacco.
Burchett is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 15 for a pretrial conference. If convicted, Burchett could face five to 10 years in jail.
