A Kentucky State Police trooper shot and killed a man in Olive Hill on New Year's Eve while responding to report of domestic violence, according to the state police.
The state police did not immediately identify the trooper or the dead man.
Troopers and the Carter County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of domestic violence on U.S. 60 west of Olive Hill in Carter County on New Year's Eve. Officers tried to contact the man via phone and the public address system on a police vehicle while observing a man assaulting a woman, the state police said.
The man inside the house fired at officers, and a trooper fired a single shot in response. The man inside the house died at the scene. The woman was treated at a hospital for injuries suffered during the assault, state police said.
