Father of man shot by police in northern Kentucky waits for answers

It's been more than a week since Chris Meimann was jarred awake in the middle of the night by the sound of police at his door, asking for his son.

"They were looking for him," Meimann said of his son, Allen Berly Todd, Jr. "The officers were nice when they came here. I told them, 'Please don't hurt him.'"

Nine days later, Meimann is no closer to understanding what happened to the 27-year-old nicknamed A.J. -- for "Allen Junior" -- whom the Independence man had raised as his own since marrying his mother 20 years ago.

Todd had been shot by police after they spotted him walking along Carol Ann Lane at 10:30 a.m. the morning of a Florence hotel robbery, about a mile or two from the Independence home he shared with his parents and 16-year-old sister.
