Father charged in shooting death of son in Perry County

A 51-year-old Perry County man died late Saturday after his father shot him in the head, according to Kentucky State Police.

State police responded at 10:44 p.m. to a report of gunfire on Plumbford Branch Road in the Viper community. Inside a home there, they found the body of Tommy Rice with one gunshot wound to the head. His father, Bernard Ray Rice, was taken from the home to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment of "unrelated issues," police said.

After investigating, police said, they determined that Bernard Ray and Tommy Rice had argued, and Bernard Ray then shot Tommy. Bernard Ray Rice was charged with second-degree manslaughter. He remained Sunday in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
