A Laurel County husband and wife suffered gunshot wounds Monday night when they scuffled over a handgun, authorities said.
Junior Cornett, 67, and his wife, Beverly Cornett, whose age wasn't released, were taken to Baptist Healthcare in Corbin for treatment, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Department. There was no immediate word on their conditions.
Deputies said they also arrested Junior Cornett's brother, Ronnie Cornett, on a variety of charges, including interfering with an investigation.
The altercation happened just after 9 p.m. Monday on Edgewater Road, about 12 miles south of London.
Deputies received reports of a domestic argument between a woman and her allegedly intoxicated husband. They arrived to find that both had suffered gunshot wounds after struggling over a .22-caliber pistol, the sheriff's department said.
Some time later, Ronnie Cornett arrived at the home. He was charged with interfering with the case, second-degree disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, deputies said.
The sheriff's department and Kentucky State Police investigation is not yet complete.
