A 9-year-old child died Monday afternoon of injuries from a weekend crash in Perry County.
Kentucky State Police troopers were called at 6:40 p.m. Saturday to Combs Road, near Perry County Central High School, after Jason Combs' pickup collided head-on with another vehicle, according to a news release.
Combs, 36, of Hazard was driving east on Combs Road when his 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 2001 Chrysler Sebring, police said. The driver and passenger of the car, and Combs, were taken to the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.
The child, whose name was not given, was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. The child was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. Monday, the news release said. The child had been wearing a seat belt.
Combs is charged with driving under the influence and other traffic offenses. He could face additional charges as a result of the child's death. Combs was being held in the Kentucky River Regional Jail, the news release said.
The investigation is continuing.
