A Lexington man shook his 8-month-old son because he wouldn't stop crying, causing serious injuries to the child, police said.
Shawn Wilson is charged with criminal abuse of a child younger than 12. Wilson pleaded not guilty in district court on Thursday and was released on a $500 bond.
The baby suffered a number of injuries, including bleeding of the brain and retinal bleeding, according to court documents. In a subdural hematoma, the bleeding is between the skull and the layers of tissue that surround the brain. The child was in the pediatric intensive care unit at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital when Wilson was arrested Wednesday, according to a complaint filed in district court.
Police said Wilson told them that his son wouldn't stop crying, probably because he was teething.
Wilson also said he was stressed because of unpaid bills and because he couldn't find a job as a result of a previous conviction, according to court documents.
