A Whitley County Middle School student was taken into custody Thursday for allegedly posting an online threat against the school system.
School district officials were continuing their investigation to determine whether any other students were involved, according to a statement from the Whitley County Public Schools.
All schools in the district went on lockdown Thursday morning, but normal operations resumed after a search of the entire campus, officials said.
Whitley schools Superintendent Scott Paul was notified by county dispatchers shortly before 10 a.m. that statements had been posted in an online chat room indicating that someone with a gun was on the Whitley Schools' central campus.
Kentucky State Police, the Whitley County Sheriff's Department and other agencies sent representatives to help search the campus.
During the search, the School district's technology department traced the Internet posting to a computer at the Whitley County Middle School, officials said.
The student responsible was then identified and taken into custody, district officials said.
