State police shot a man who pointed a handgun and laser pointer at them early Saturday.
Troopers went to a home on Bryson Road in Eddyville to execute a search warrant, according to a news release. When they knocked on the door and identified themselves, John C. Smith, 51, came to the door and pointed the gun and pointer at them.
When Smith refused several orders to drop the gun, one of the troopers shot him in the abdomen, according to the release.
He underwent surgery and was in the intensive care unit at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
State police said they recovered 10 ounces of crystal meth valued at $18,000, several guns and "a large amount of cash" from the house.
Smith will be charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a felon, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patricia A. Kilgore, 41, of Eddyville was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Caldwell County Jail.
