24 face charges after drug bust in Bell and Knox counties

Kentucky State Police charged 24 people after a drug bust in Bell and Knox counties.

Troopers with the state police post in Harlan have charged more than 100 people with selling drugs and drug trafficking in less than a year, the state police said.

Wednesday's arrest "shows the severity of the drug problem in Eastern Kentucky" and illustrates the commitment to continue to fight the drug problem," state police said. All 24 people were being held in the Bell County jail.

■ Merlin Nickels, 51, of Mount Sterling, is charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking controlled substance and three counts of third-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Alex Turner, 21, of Pineville, is charged with two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance and one count of first-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Anthony Cloud, 54, of Pineville, is charged with two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance and one count of first-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Johnny Howard, 58, of Pineville, is charged with two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Mary Cloud, 53 of Pineville, is charged with trafficking 1000 yards of a school.

■ Jerome Fergerson, 38, of Pineville, is charged with one count of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Edith Sanders, 35, of Pineville, is charged with one count first-degree and second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Joey Philpot, 40, of Pineville, is charged with one count of first-degree trafficking controlled substance and two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Crit Callebs, 60, of Pineville, charged with six counts of first-degree trafficking controlled substance, two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance, one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

■ George Frazier, 61, of Pineville, is charged with two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ John Winebrenner, 50, of Arjay, is charged with five counts of first-degree trafficking controlled substance and one count of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Jackie Messer, 58, of Arjay, is charged with two counts of third-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Amanda Cole, 25, of Middlesboro, is charged with one count of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Terry Miracle, 52 of Middlesboro, is charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking controlled substance.

■ Jennifer Gray, 38, of Flat Lick, is charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking controlled substance and two counts of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.
